How it started…

For as long as she can remember Haley Woodard has been obsessed with food. Binging the Food Network, spending all her money on cookbooks, or looking up famous restaurants all became a common past time. After receiving acceptance to Johnson & Wales Haley and her husband Mitchell packed up their belongings and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2016. Immediately they fell in love with the city and decided to put down roots post school. In December of 2021 Haley launched Wheatberry Cakes. With the growth of the business it was clear it was time to separate the brands and launch the future brick and mortar concept, Wheatberry Bakeshop.

The Bakeshop combines both our love of the American South and our admiration of European bakeries. Influenced by the seasonality around us our menu changes often to showcase the best of what the region has to offer. Similar to a neighborhood bakery in Europe we want to be a one stop shop for all of your bread, pastry and cake needs. In the spirit of Southern hospitality we want to build a welcoming and warm environment for everyone to enjoy. We do this by investing in our community through supporting small local agriculture, centering around sustainability in our business model, and putting people first.

Where we’re going…

Right now Wheatberry Bakeshop functions as an online retailer and pop up shop. However, our plan has always been a brick and mortar to serve others easily. Our vision is to be a neighborhood shop that supports your lifestyle. A place to come to grab a coffee and catch up with a long-time friend, a quick stop to treat yourself after a long week, and an annual pilgrimage for your birthday celebration.

While we are over here building dream boards and crunching the numbers we really appreciate you showing up. Every cake order, danish purchase and share on our socials bring us ever closer to our goals. Thank you for that. We wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for your support. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our little community.
